This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, how long we keep it, and your rights. We are the data controller. Our ICO registration number is ZA567890.

What we collect

We collect data you give us directly (name, address, email, phone, payment info), data from your device (IP, browser, basic usage), and data from third parties (e.g. Klarna eligibility decisions).

How we use your data

Primarily to fulfil orders, manage repairs, run your account, and provide support. With your consent, we also send marketing emails and personalised recommendations.

Lawful bases

We rely on contract performance (your order), legal obligation (tax, consumer law), legitimate interest (fraud prevention, service improvement) and consent (marketing, non-essential cookies).

Sharing your data

We share with delivery carriers (DPD, Royal Mail), payment processors (Stripe, Klarna), fraud-screening providers, and our cloud hosts (AWS Ireland). We never sell your data.

Right of access: we'll provide a free copy of your data within 30 days of request. Use the form in your account dashboard for fastest response.

International transfers

Most data stays in the UK/EU. Some processors operate globally — for those, we use UK IDTA / EU SCC contracts plus additional safeguards.

How long we keep data

Order records: 7 years (tax law). Account details: until you close your account + 6 months. Marketing prefs: until you withdraw consent. CCTV in stores: 30 days.

You have rights to access, rectify, delete, restrict, and port your data, plus the right to object to processing based on legitimate interest. Exercise any right via hello@byte.co.uk.

Our services are not intended for under-16s. We don't knowingly collect data from children. The Kids range is purchased by adults for children.
